The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Major General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro, has declared the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as an invaluable national asset crucial to fostering peace, unity, and national integration among Nigerians.

Major General Okoro made the assertion on Sunday, October 11, 2026, during a strategic courtesy visit by the NYSC leadership to the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Receiving the delegation, the GOC commended the management of the NYSC scheme and corps members nationwide for their patriotic roles in nation-building. He emphasized that despite the country’s socio-cultural and regional diversity, the NYSC remains a vital bridge promoting cultural integration and mutual understanding among Nigerian youths regardless of tribe, tongue, or religious affiliation.

”The NYSC scheme remains a key national asset that has continuously provided the framework for unity, selflessness, and national integration,” Major General Okoro stated. “The Nigerian Army, particularly 6 Division, will continue to offer maximum support, security, and enabling environment for corps members deployed across our areas of responsibility.”

Earlier in the meeting, the NYSC Rivers State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, highlighted that the visit was aimed at strengthening the long-standing synergy and operational friendship between the Nigerian Army and the NYSC scheme within the state.

Mr. Oleghe expressed deep appreciation to the GOC for the continuous security support provided to corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, as well as those serving in various remote communities across Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states. He solicited sustained collaboration and open-door policies to ensure the safety, welfare, and smooth discharge of national service duties by corps members.

The high-level meeting concluded at approximately 11:30 AM with the exchange of official souvenirs, signing of the visitor’s register, and group photographs involving principal staff officers of the 6 Division and the visiting NYSC administrative team.

According to official briefings released by the Division’s Public Relations unit, the 6 Division reaffirmed its commitment to securing oil infrastructure and upholding peace across the Niger Delta while maintaining strong civil-military relationships with key federal institutions like the NYSC.
