I have read widely, traveled far, and reported from many corners of the world. Yet, I have rarely come across a man as loud, self-absorbed, and tragically unreflective as Wike. He carries on as though power is eternal, as if position confers immortality. But history is full of men like him, intoxicated by power, deafened by their own voices, and ultimately humbled by time.
Where is Hophni? Where is Abacha? Where are the once all-powerful ministers, governors, and godfathers who believed the sun would never set on their influence? Many of them now live in obscurity, nursing regrets, abandoned by the very crowd that once cheered them on.
Power is like the wind. It comes, it goes. And life itself is a vapor. Wike will learn this. The lesson is inevitable.
