Nsukka won 21 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze to emerge winner in the games sponsored by the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC).
The weeklong tournament featured 18 sporting events involving the 17 LGAs in the state.
In the final Football event played inside the mainbowl of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu, Ezeagu Local Government Area defeated Udi LGA by 3-2 to clinch the men’s final.
In the female football category, Udi defeated Nsukka LGA by 3-0 to win the Gold.
Declaring the games closed, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremmadu, said the weeklong event had lived up to expectation.
He commended the young athletes for showcasing their talents during the games.
“During the opening ceremony I urged young athletes to do their best , play hard, and to win fair.
“I am pleased to say that you have all exceeded our expectations, ” Ekweremmadu said.
The commissioner added that the primary aim of the games was to provide a platform to select the best athletes to represent the state in the forthcoming National Youth Games in Asaba, in September.
He said: ”We have witnessed outstanding performances, and I am confident that those chosen will make our state proud on the national stage.”
Ekweremmadu thanked Gov. Peter Mbah for providing the enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state.
He also commended the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), for sponsoring the games.
Mrs Martina Ugwuoke, Head of Administration, Nsukka LGA, said she was grateful for the win and promised to reward the athletes and officials back home.
The winner went home with One million naira and a giant trophy. (NAN).
