The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sent a strong warning to vandals targeting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), cautioning them to steer clear or face arrest during the Christmas and New Year festivities. The warning was delivered in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi.
She noted that the festive period often comes with increased movement, heightened commercial activities, and greater pressure on essential services, making it necessary for security agencies to intensify their vigilance. Ojobi explained that the NSCDC has already strengthened surveillance across the FCT to protect vital installations such as electricity facilities, water pipelines, communication masts, rail tracks, and other nationally significant infrastructure.
She stressed that the Corps would not hesitate to apprehend and prosecute anyone found attempting to damage or tamper with these assets. According to her, special operational teams have been deployed to strategic areas, including remote locations where vandals typically strike. She urged criminal elements to take the warning seriously, stating that the Corps is fully prepared to ensure that no individual or group sabotages infrastructure that millions of Nigerians rely upon.
“The Command is on high alert. We will ensure maximum protection of all critical infrastructure throughout the festive season. Vandals are strongly advised to stay off these assets or they will be arrested and made to face the law,” Ojobi said. She also appealed to residents to support the NSCDC by reporting suspicious movements around sensitive installations, noting that the protection of national assets is a shared responsibility.
As preparations for the Christmas and New Year celebrations intensify, the NSCDC reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and uninterrupted access to essential services across the FCT.
