The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has moved to address growing concerns among its personnel over unpaid promotion and salary arrears, following claims that welfare funds were being withheld under the current leadership of the service. The clarification comes after some officers raised complaints over the non-payment of promotion arrears covering the 2022 to 2024 period, alleging that despite repeated assurances, the expected payments had yet to reflect.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Corps’ spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, explained that the responsibility for paying salaries and promotion arrears does not rest with the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi. According to him, such payments are centrally processed by the Presidential Committee on Arrears, a body chaired by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation and the Accountant General of the Federation. Babawale stressed that the Corps’ leadership has no authority to independently release or withhold funds meant for arrears, noting that all disbursements follow federal government approval and budgetary procedures.
He added that the management of the NSCDC remains committed to the welfare of its personnel and continues to engage relevant authorities to ensure outstanding entitlements are addressed in line with government processes. The Corps urged officers and the public to avoid misinformation, assuring that efforts are ongoing at the appropriate federal level to resolve the issue.
