The Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), has warned prospective students, parents and guardians against a fraudulent admission notice circulating online on social media platforms.
The warning is contained in a statement issued by Malam Abdallah El-Kurebe, Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol, NWUS, on Thursday in Sokoto.
The statement said the fake notice claimed that the university had released its 2026/2027 first and second batch admission lists.
It said the notice provided a telephone number, 07073682223, and identified an individual as “Dr. Mrs. Mary”, allegedly directing applicants to check their admission status, process clearance, pay school fees and secure admission in subsequent batches.
The university described the notice as fraudulent and stressed that it did not originate from the institution.
“We have not asked prospective students to pay money to individuals through private arrangements to secure admission, nor have we authorised individuals to use personal telephone numbers to offer admission, conduct clearance, collect school fees or guarantee applicants places in our programmes,” it said.
NWUS expressed concern that unscrupulous individuals were attempting to exploit prospective students and their families by taking advantage of their desire to secure admission.
It urged prospective students and members of the public to ignore the telephone number and instructions contained in the fake notice and to avoid sending money or disclosing personal or admission-related information through unauthorised channels.
The university also advised applicants to be wary of individuals who claimed they could check admission lists, secure admission, process clearance or guarantee placement in exchange for payment.
It said all admission-related information, including the release of admission lists, admission procedures, school fees and other official updates, would be communicated through its authorised channels.
The institution urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards about the scam and to verify admission-related information directly with the university before making payments or taking any action.
The university advised members of the public to contact it through its official telephone line, 0704-269-9999, to verify admission-related information.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible admission process while protecting prospective students and their families from fraudsters.
The institution urged the public to disregard the circulating notice and to rely exclusively on information issued through its official communication channels.
