A northern-based advocacy group, Northern Nigerians Peace, has strongly condemned what it described as a coordinated campaign of calumny against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by its Chairman, Dr. Usman Aboki, the group accused certain politicians of exploiting the tragedy for political leverage. According to Aboki, the actions of these political actors amount to “celebrating the misfortune of innocent citizens simply because of political differences.”
He said the group was deeply concerned that instead of uniting in condemnation of the attack and supporting efforts to rescue the abducted pupils, some individuals have chosen to sponsor negative statements and orchestrate media attacks targeting the President. Aboki described the trend as “unfortunate and insensitive,” stressing that security challenges in the Northwest require collective support, not political point-scoring.
He added that President Tinubu has continued to prioritize security reforms and tactical operations aimed at curbing banditry and kidnapping in the region. The group urged politicians and public commentators to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and instead channel their influence toward promoting peace and national unity. “Now is the time for leaders at all levels to stand together, not tear each other down,” the statement read.
“The safety of our children and the stability of our nation must come before politics.” Northern Nigerians Peace also called on security agencies to intensify operations to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls and restore confidence among residents of affected communities.
