The Chairman of the Northern States’ Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, has reaffirmed the commitment of northern governors to addressing the security challenges facing the region.
Speaking on Monday in Gombe, Yahaya made these remarks while receiving a comprehensive report on insecurity in Northern Nigeria from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), prepared by the Coalition’s Experts’ Committee.
He acknowledged the escalating impact of insecurity on the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians and emphasized the collective resolve of his fellow governors to collaborate with key stakeholders in tackling the issue effectively.
Governor Yahaya announced plans for a collective approach to combating insecurity, including the convening of an all-stakeholders’ meeting aimed at finding a lasting solution to the region’s security problems. This meeting, he said, would bring together past and present leaders, traditional rulers, security chiefs, and civil society organizations.
“This time, we aim to take a unified approach to address the insecurity issue. The report is timely, and we will study it carefully to work towards its implementation. We are currently planning an expanded meeting with all critical stakeholders in the region to further explore how we can collectively propose solutions that will genuinely resolve these problems,” Yahaya stated.
He commended the leadership of the CNG for producing a comprehensive report that thoroughly analyzed strategies to tackle the region’s security challenges.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of the CNG’s Committee of Experts on security, Mr. Bashir Ibrahim, highlighted that the report offers actionable strategies to address insecurity in Northern Nigeria. He stressed that combating insecurity requires an “all-society” approach, where everyone is involved.
“One of the key strategies outlined in this report is what we call an all-society approach to tackling insecurity in Northern Nigeria. This means that everyone is a stakeholder, and no one can afford to be a spectator because insecurity affects us all. We have laid out a strategy where every citizen plays a role in bringing about solutions to end insecurity,” Ibrahim explained.
