A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Enuanwa has charged Nigerians to always remember that sinful life has consequences that do not consider wealth as passport to heaven at death.
In his homily at the funeral service of the late Ezinne Maria Ejiofor, mother of former State Director with the Department of State Service (DSS), Barr. Mike Ejiofor at St. Charles Catholic Church, Ubulu-Uku, Delta State, the priest posited that “no amount of property or wealth will guarantee us heaven except love for the things of God and our fellow human beings. We should live, express and share the love of God among ourselves” he directed.
According to Fr. Enuanwa, “heaven is a place of peace, with no insecurity nor suffering but the question is, how do we get there?”
He wondered why people in contemporary times are living in flesh instead of the spirit. “People are killing themselves to acquire political power, others kill for the sake of money. Many people do not care for the consequences of their action with the least thought that what matters most is the quality of life we live.”
Speaking on the life and times of the late Ezinne Maria Ejiofor, the priest, thanked God for the life of the deceased who lived for 100 years, but remarked that one can live for 100 years and yet did not know or serve God in his or her life time. However, he expressed gratitude that the Late Mrs. Ejiofor lived a good Christian life “hence we are all gathered to celebrate her exit.”
Rev. Fr. Enuanwa has therefore charged every Nigerian irrespective of one’s socio-economic status to always think of the last day when God’s judgement will separate the good from the bad.
The burial activities of the “quintessential matriarch” of the Ejiofor family had begun on Thursday at Ubulu-Uku with a service of songs that attracted many dignitaries from within and outside Delta State.
The funeral mass and elaborate reception which followed soon after the interment at the Ejiofor family compound at Isho Quarters of Ubulu-Uku were also well attended by personalities from various sections of the society.
They included, House of Representatives former Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, a one time Minister of Agriculture, Chief Chris Agbobu, Contemporary Group Chairman/CEO, Arc. Kester Ifeadi, General Williams Opened (rtd), Arc. Richie Ogbogu, Amb. Ken Ajieh, Aniocha South Chairman, Hon. Jude Chukwunwike, Dr. Jones Ofunne, representative of the Director General of DSS, State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and many other distinguished personalities.
There were many groups of friends of Barr. Mike Ejiofor and his siblings including Dr. Emma Ejiofor; a one time Deputy Chief of Staff to Delta State Governor.
The funeral service was officiated by a galaxy of Catholic Reverend Fathers from different parishes in Delta State and Abuja and no fewer than 20 of them were physically present at the colourful event.
