The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has described the much-publicised expectation of delivering one million votes by the Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general election as a mere illusion, deceptive, unrealistic, and completely detached from present political realities.
In a press statement signed by Dr. Agbo Major, National Chairman of the NNPP, the party cautioned that Mr. Peter Obi must not, under any circumstance, compromise the integrity, credibility, and organic structure of the Obedient Movement by entering into a joint presidential arrangement with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to the statement, members of the NNPP have closely followed reports of behind-the-scenes political maneuvers allegedly championed by former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, aimed at forcing a joint presidential ticket between Mr. Peter Obi and Senator Kwankwaso ahead of the February 20, 2027 presidential election.
“We can only respond with disbelief,” the statement noted, “because Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at this moment, is a general without troops. He has lost political control, influence, and the very structure that once produced electoral outcomes in his name.”
The NNPP stressed that the political strength Kwankwaso once enjoyed in Kano State has been gravely diminished by the mass exodus of his core allies and loyalists. Key political figures who were central to the Kwankwasiya MoveNNPP including Hon. Ali Madaki, Senator Sumaila Kawu, Hon. Alhassan Rurum, Hon. Rogo, Baffa Bichi, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Prof. Alkali, Prof. Sam Angwe, and several others-have since defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These defections, the party argued, were triggered by high-handedness, insincerity, arrogance, greed, betrayal of trust, and an entrenched inferiority complex, all of which have collectively eroded Kwankwaso’s relevance and standing in Kano politics.
The statement further rejected the notion that a forced Obi-Kwankwaso alliance is the only viable pathway to defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in 2027.
“If Chief Obasanjo and a handful of old political gladiators believe that combining Obi and Kwankwaso is the only formula to stop Tinubu or Atiku, we completely and respectfully disagree,” the party declared.
The NNPP also expressed concern over what it described as a calculated fallback plan by Kwankwaso and Obi in the event of a failed primary contest within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that the NNPP must not be viewed as a political refuge of last resort.
The party reminded the public that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s expulsion from the NNPP has been conclusively affirmed by judgements of the Abia State High Court and the FCT High Court in 2025, judgements which remain valid, binding, and unchallenged to date.
“These are watertight court decisions,” the statement emphasized. “If Senator Kwankwaso believes he can replicate the political impunity he practiced in the PDP North-West in another party, then he is merely building a castle on shifting sand.”
Reflecting on past events, the NNPP recalled that both Peter Obi and Kwankwaso had a clear opportunity to run on a joint ticket under the NNPP platform during the 2023 elections, but that opportunity was squandered due to arrogance, greed, and personal ambition, particularly on part of Kwankwaso.
The statement further noted that Mr. Obi could have engaged Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam Founder, life member, and Chairman of the NNPP Board of Trustees to broker a successful alliance in 2023. Instead, informal and unproductive channels were pursued, leading to failure and the disappointment of millions of Nigerians who yearned for a united alternative at the time.
Addressing current political realities in Kano State, the NNPP stressed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is today the undisputed leader of the NNPP, being the highest-ranking elected official of the party nationwide, and that this position reflects the existing political order.
Finally, the NNPP issued a strong word of caution to Mr. Peter Obi: “We advise Mr. Obi to exercise maximum restraint in any engagement with Senator Kwankwaso. Any hasty or ill-considered political arrangement risks damaging the cohesion, credibility, and moral authority of the Obedient Movement, which remains one of the most organic and principled political movements in contemporary Nigeria.”
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, discipline, and principled politics, stressing that personal ambition must never be allowed to undermine collective integrity or the will of the people.
