In a renewed push to entrench accountability and curb misconduct, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken a decisive step by inaugurating Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Desk Officers across the country.
The inauguration, which took place on Thursday at the NIS headquarters in Abuja, marked a coordinated effort to institutionalise ethical standards within the Service. The ceremony drew high-level participation, with representatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Chief of Army Staff, the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and other key stakeholders in attendance. The newly appointed desk officers were formally sworn in during the event.
The ACTU Desk Officers were inaugurated under the supervision of the ICPC Chairman, Barrister Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), who was represented by the Director of the System Study and Review Department, Mr Olusegun Adigun. Their mandate includes monitoring compliance, promoting transparency, and serving as internal watchdogs against corrupt practices within the Immigration Service.
Addressing the gathering, the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap, issued a stern warning to officers and personnel, particularly those deployed at airports, border posts, and passport offices. She stressed that corruption and sharp practices would no longer be tolerated, noting that any officer found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The initiative underscores the NIS leadership’s commitment to restoring public trust, strengthening internal control mechanisms, and aligning the Service with national anti-corruption reforms championed by the federal government and oversight agencies.
