The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze and thunderstorms across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday, cautioning Nigerians to remain alert and adopt necessary safety measures.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted slight dust haze over Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, and parts of Kaduna States on Monday, while other areas in the northern region are expected to experience sunny conditions throughout the day.

The agency also projected that parts of the North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, and Nasarawa States, may experience isolated thunderstorms during the forecast period. In the southern states, particularly Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa, cloudy skies with intervals of rainfall and thunderstorms are anticipated.

NiMet advised airline operators to obtain regular weather updates from its offices to ensure flight safety, as the dust haze may lead to reduced horizontal visibility, posing challenges to air navigation.

Motorists and road users were also cautioned to drive carefully, especially in areas affected by poor visibility or wet road conditions resulting from rainfall.

The agency further warned residents in coastal and low-lying regions to clear drainage channels and remain vigilant against possible flooding due to heavy downpours.

Citizens are advised to take adequate precautions, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and protect individuals with respiratory issues in areas experiencing dust haze,” NiMet stated.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely and reliable weather information to support public safety and guide decision-making in critical sectors such as aviation, agriculture, and transportation.
