In order to modernize the country’s airspace infrastructure, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, is set to install a critical communication equipment.
The equipment, Rohde & Schwarz High-Frequency (HF) transceivers is enhanced with advanced signal processing algorithms that to a large extent reduces noise levels associated with traditional HF systems.
To this end, NAMA officials led by the Managing Director, Mr. Farouk Umar, are holding high-level talks with officials of Rhode and Schwarz, manufacturer of the communication equipment, and Deo Makro Ltd, an indigenous contractor that facilitated the visit to Germany.
In a statement by the spokesman NAMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, the technology leap is expected to boost the long-range air-to-ground communications capabilities across the Nigerian airspace, addressing the range limitations of current Very High Frequency (VHF) systems.
The new HF solution will ensure robust and reliable communication coverage over the Gulf of Guinea, extending far into the Atlantic Ocean, and across the Northern desert regions beyond the Kano Flight Information Region (FIR).
According to NAMA Managing Director, Mr. Umar, “the deployment of the communication equipment aligns with the commitment of the President to enhance the safety of the sector through upgrading and modernizing airspace infrastructure”.
He said, the successful implementation of the project would further boost upper airspace communication in the country, ensuring a safer and more efficient air travel experience for passengers and crew.
