A fresh wave of unrest has hit Nigerian universities as two major non-academic staff unions, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), have announced an indefinite strike beginning Monday, 28 October.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of both unions declared the strike over the prolonged non-payment of their members’ salaries, with some salaries withheld for as long as four months since 2022.

In a joint statement released on Sunday, SSANU National President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi emphasized that the strike will remain in effect until their demands are addressed.
