The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has officially returned the Super Puma Helicopter to service after it was grounded for three years due to a technical issue with its main rotor hub. Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), inaugurated the reactivated helicopter on Wednesday at the 205 Rotary Wing in Ikeja, Lagos State, highlighting its strategic importance in military operations.
According to Aneke, the Super Puma is a highly versatile aircraft capable of executing complex and demanding missions. “This platform has proven its worth as a tactical mobility asset during Operation Hadin Kai. It is a workhorse, capable of troop transport, search and rescue, casualty evacuation, and logistical support,” he said. The reactivation is expected to strengthen the NAF’s rotary wing capabilities, particularly in areas requiring rapid deployment and operational flexibility.
Aneke emphasized that restoring the helicopter enhances both the operational readiness and resilience of Nigeria’s air fleet. The Super Puma’s return marks a significant milestone for the Air Force, underscoring its commitment to maintaining advanced and reliable aerial assets for national security and humanitarian missions.
