The national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed his belief that the current situation in Nigeria indicates a strong desire for genuine change among the populace in the upcoming 2027 election cycle.
He made these remarks on Thursday while welcoming over 2,000 former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who defected to the NNPP in Kano State.
During the reception, which took place at his residence on Miller Road in Kano, Kwankwaso addressed the defectors from Dala, Kiru, and Gwale Local Government Areas, emphasizing that Nigerians, particularly those in the northern region, have endured hardships and are now ready to embrace a shift towards meaningful change.
“Nigerians have suffered enough,” he asserted, adding that no amount of pressure or intimidation could sway their resolve.
Kwankwaso urged the public to reconsider their support for the current political landscape, stating that it has become increasingly evident that the APC-led government is working against the interests of the impoverished masses and shows no signs of change.
He further argued that despite any intentions the APC might have to manipulate the electoral process through security forces and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the growing discontent among Nigerians will prevail, as they are determined to fight for change.
He described the influx of APC members into the NNPP as a historic event, noting that the number of defectors from various wards within the Dala, Kiru, Gwale, and Dawakin Tofa local government areas signals a complete collapse of the APC’s influence in those regions.
Kwankwaso pointed out that the APC, which was originally established to uplift the poor, has now betrayed its foundational mission, leading to deepening insecurity and poverty that afflict the nation.
According to him, “Nigerians are tired,” underscoring the urgent need for a new direction in leadership.
