The Federal Government of Nigeria has raised scholarship grants by 50% for students at all academic levels, effective for the 2025–2026 academic cycle, to bolster education and human capital development. Announced by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa on July 30, 2025, PhD students will now receive N750,000 annually (up from N500,000), Master’s students N600,000 (from N400,000), and undergraduate, HND, and NCE students N450,000 (from N300,000).
The N6 billion initiative, covering programs like the Nigerian Scholarship Award and Bilateral Education Agreement, prioritizes STEM fields (70%) and reserves 5% for students with disabilities. Alausa, via his X handle, called it a “strategic investment” for Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy goal, with oversight by the Federal Scholarship Board and an Inter-Ministerial Committee.
