The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) has disowned from any protest “driven by external interests” against the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt last night (Wednesday, February 26), the group’s spokesman, Legborsi Yamaabana, warned that “certain individuals have been engaged to orchestrate protest against the NDDC,” going by hints from “credible and reliable sources.”
“We are aware of the recent attempts by faceless group sponsored by narrow, selfish motives group, to target the current Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku,” the group charged,
“While we are not taking a partisan stance in favour of either the managing director, or the NDDC board, we state unequivocally that these actions are solely intended to disrupt the peace and stability of our region, incite crisis, and impede our development.
“We commend the leadership of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for his steadfast commitment to transparency, accountability, and infrastructural development.”
Legborsi noted that the NDDC, under the administration of the current Managing Director, has adopted an open door policy, which has made protest unnecessary, a refreshing change from the previous executives, adding that the sterling governance and progressive initiatives of the current NDDC boss have brought change and significantly improved engagement with the Niger Delta youth leaders.
NDENYLF’s spokesman emphasized that the tenure of the current NDDC boss is valid and remains in full effect as affirmed by the Minister for the Development Commission, Mr Abubarkar Momoh.
He called on security agencies to exercise heightened vigilance and take necessary measures against groups whose sole aim is to disrupt the peace in the Niger Delta under false pretences.
“The stability and prosperity of our communities and our region are paramount to us, and we will not tolerate any actions that compromise these values
“We reiterate that the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum stands as the highest decision making body for youth and civil society within the Niger Delta, representing all ethnic groups that constitute this vibrant region,” he stated.
Legborsi reaffirmed the group’s commitment to fostering unity, progress and sustainable development for the benefit of all in the region.
