The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the passing of former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, paying a heartfelt tribute to the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, the NFF wrote: “Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana. We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion. Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai.”
Rufai, fondly known as “Dodo Mayana,” was Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 1994 World Cup and one of the most iconic figures in Nigerian football history. His international career spanned over a decade, and he was widely admired for his calm presence, agility, and leadership on and off the pitch.
