The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a temporary traffic diversion on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to enable repair works on the Kara Bridge.
The diversion follows plans to replace damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge along the outbound Lagos section of the highway.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, said the maintenance work will commence on March 10, 2026, and is expected to last about two weeks, ending on March 24.
According to the ministry, motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the repair period to reduce traffic congestion.
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu toward Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan have been encouraged to use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes. Meanwhile, those coming from Lagos Island can take the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode to connect to Sagamu, Ibadan, or Mowe.
The ministry also warned motorists that shorter routes may not necessarily be faster and urged them to plan their trips early, comply with traffic management officials, and drive carefully around the construction zone.
It apologised for the inconvenience the temporary partial closure may cause and appealed for the cooperation of road users while efforts are made to improve the safety and durability of the nation’s road infrastructure.
Earlier in February, the ministry announced a six-week partial closure of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to allow urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo–Punch Bridge.
