The newly inaugurated Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Mr Joshua Ishaku, has pledged to prioritise grassroots development and improve the living conditions of residents across the council.
Ishaku made the pledge at the handing over of leadership of the council to his successor Ishaku, at the council secretariat in Bwari after being sworn in by the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, on Monday in Abuja.
The event was organised by the council’s Transition Committee, headed by the outgoing council secretary, Mr Eli Kadanya.
Ishaku said that his administration would focus on people-centred policies aimed at addressing the developmental needs of communities in the area council.
He added that his task was to take the council to a new dimension, with the sole aim to making it greater.
“We are committed to bringing governance closer to the people and ensuring that every community feels the impact of government.
” Our struggle remains to place Bwari where it belongs,” he said.
The chairman urged residents of the area and well wishers to support to his administration, as well as to the outgoing chairman, Gabaya, who will continues to bid for a political position in 2027.
According to Ishaku, with the outgoing chairman at the National Assembly, representing Bwari North constituency, the council’s challenges would experience speedy attention at the higher level.
He added that, the move would help develop the council faster.
Ishaku called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, politicians and security agents to maintain peaceful coexistence and work together for the progress of the community.
The chairman also pledged to maintain an open-door policy and engage regularly with residents through Town Hall meetings to identify and address their pressing needs.
Earlier, the outgoing chairman, Gabaya, while appreciating the people for their support throughout his seven years in office, urged them to give same support to the new administration.
Gabaya, who expressed joy to personally handover to his successor, also advised the new chairman to brace up for the task ahead with prayers and determination.
” The leadership at the council level is both sweet and sour and so, you must be prepared to stand firm in the face of criticisms.
” However, most importantly is you must work with the religious leaders; they helped and guided me and I believe, with their prayers, God will guide you through too,”he said
Gabaya thanked the people for giving him the privilege to serve them, while acknowledging their support throughout his period in office.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the new leadership to move the council forward.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ishaku of the All Progressive Congress (APC), winner of Bwari Area Council Chairmanship election in February.
