The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the official opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, providing eligible students across the country’s tertiary institutions with access to financial assistance for their education.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the agency’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND said the application window will open on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and close on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
According to the statement, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing effort to ensure that no Nigerian student is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints.
The Fund is pleased to announce that the portal for student loan applications for the 2025/2026 academic year will officially open on October 23, 2025. All eligible students in public tertiary institutions are encouraged to apply within the stipulated timeframe,” Oluwatuyi said.
He explained that the portal will allow students to submit applications, upload necessary documents, and track the progress of their requests digitally, making the process more transparent and accessible.
The agency also urged applicants to ensure that they meet all eligibility requirements before submitting their applications, noting that detailed guidelines and step-by-step instructions are available on the NELFUND website.
Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible and to ensure that every qualified Nigerian student has the opportunity to pursue education without financial worry,” the statement added.
NELFUND, established by the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, is tasked with managing and disbursing loans to students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The initiative, a flagship policy of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aims to promote equitable access to education and reduce the burden of tuition and related expenses on students and their families.
Since its inception, the Fund has been working to improve digital systems, strengthen partnerships with institutions, and enhance transparency in loan disbursement and repayment processes.
The reopening of the portal for the new academic session is expected to benefit thousands of students in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
