Southeast leaders drawn from the five states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, met in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Saturday, 21st June, 2025 to fashion out how to deal with the zone’s fate in the current political arrangement in Nigeria, with a resolve to explore collaborations with other Nigerians that will be beneficial to all interests.

The parley saw delegates under the aegis of South East Renaissance Group (SRG), deliberating on 10 key issues that they believed were critical to reaching the goal of creating a robust environment for the political, economic and social growth of the five states to replicate the quantum leaps it made in the past that made it the fastest growing economy not only in Nigeria but in the world at a time in history.

Key among the issues, according to a resolution signed by Prof. Chinedu Nebo, former Minister of Power, Chairman and Prof. James Okoroma, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 11 governorship election in Imo State, Secretary, included the state and status of Ndigbo in the Scheme of things under the current political Leadership in the Country.

Other issues on the agenda, included, pervasive insecurity in Igboland and other parts of the country, worsening state of infrastructure in the zone, marginalisation of the South East in federal appointments and the Civil Service, as well as the unimpressive low participation of Igbo people in major political negotiations in the country .
