In a major blow to illicit drug networks, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 51 hectares of cannabis farms and arrested 281 suspects during a sweeping operation across Ekiti State.
​The extensive crackdown, aimed at dismantling drug syndicates and disrupting the supply chain of illicit substances, led to the confiscation of tons of harvested contraband alongside the destruction of standing crops.
​According to NDLEA officials, the operation was the result of weeks of intensified intelligence gathering and tactical planning. The 281 arrested individuals include suspected major drug barons, farm managers, and local distributors.
A total of 51 hectares of cannabis plantations were successfully tracked down and set ablaze by agency operatives. 281 suspects were taken into custody and are currently undergoing interrogation, with prosecutions expected to follow swiftly.
Officials note that the raid has severely crippled the distribution network of illicit drugs targeting both local communities and neighboring states.
​The NDLEA reiterated its uncompromising stance against drug trafficking and abuse, warning that the agency will continue to hunt down perpetrators and sanitize communities across the country. Further investigations are underway to trace the broader financial networks funding these illegal cultivation sites.
