The Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, has urged personnel of the Nigerian Navy to maintain cordial relationships with civilians while discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
Abbas gave the charge on Saturday during the Nigerian Navy’s second quarterly route march in Abuja. He was represented by Rear Adm. Samiu Adepegba, Chief of Communication and Information Technology at the Naval Headquarters.
He said professionalism, discipline, and respect for the Nigerian people were essential to the service, stressing that the Navy’s mandate would be meaningless without the trust and support of the civilian population.
The Naval Chief also cautioned personnel against acts capable of tarnishing the service’s image and urged them to remain law-abiding, dedicated to duty, and loyal to Nigeria’s democracy and constituted authority.
He described physical and mental fitness as critical to effective service delivery, noting that regular exercise enhances operational readiness, teamwork, and the capacity to respond to evolving security challenges.
Abbas assured Nigerians of the Navy’s continued commitment to protecting the nation’s maritime domain and working with other security agencies to strengthen national security.
