A wave of confusion swept through the National Assembly on Tuesday after the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) released a notice postponing a scheduled engagement, just hours after his subordinates had earlier communicated that the event would go on as planned.
The development left lawmakers, aides, and stakeholders scrambling for clarity, as the conflicting directives created uncertainty about the status of the program.
According to reports, departmental officers under the CNA’s office had circulated an official memo in the morning affirming that the event—believed to be a key administrative session involving committee clerks and senior staff—would proceed without changes. However, by mid-afternoon, the CNA himself issued a counter-statement announcing a postponement to a later date.
The abrupt reversal sparked speculations of internal miscommunication and power tussles within the assembly’s bureaucracy. Some insiders suggested that the CNA might have been excluded from earlier deliberations, prompting his directive to override the initial notice.
“This is embarrassing; we have received two different memos within the same day. People are stranded and do not know which instruction to follow,” a visibly frustrated legislative aide told reporters.
The postponement has reportedly caused logistical setbacks, as delegates who had traveled from outside Abuja expressed anger over the lack of coordination.
