In a groundbreaking step for Nigeria’s tech industry, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has partnered with Imose Technologies Ltd to launch a new line of locally-produced laptops and tablets tailored to Nigerian consumers. The devices, announced in a statement by NASENI’s Deputy Director of Information, Chima Akwaja, are aimed at meeting the computing needs of a broad range of users, from students to professionals.
The initiative represents a significant shift in Nigeria’s approach to technology development and local manufacturing, with NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Halilu, emphasizing the long-term economic impact of the collaboration. “We are transforming the agency to make it a central player in Nigeria’s technology revolution by adopting, adapting, and domesticating cutting-edge technologies,” Halilu said. “Our vision is that every household in Nigeria will own a NASENI product in the near future.”
This effort is aligned with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes local content development as a pathway to national growth and self-sufficiency. Halilu also highlighted NASENI’s foundational “3Cs” principles—Collaboration, Creation, and Commercialization—as key to the project’s goals. “This partnership with Imose Technologies is a strategic move to bridge the technological gap, reduce import dependency, and lower Nigeria’s importation bills,” he said.
Imose Technologies Chairman, Osayi Izedonmwen, echoed the partnership’s vision, describing the company’s decade-long commitment to solving Nigeria-specific challenges through local manufacturing. “For ten years, we have focused on uniquely Nigerian problems, championing local production of mobile and computing devices to improve lives and support institutions,” said Izedonmwen. “We are honored that NASENI has chosen to collaborate with us in this endeavor to bridge the digital divide and enhance access to technology for education and work.”
Beyond expanding access to affordable technology, the local manufacturing of these laptops and tablets is expected to create jobs and bolster Nigeria’s tech industry by reducing reliance on imported electronics.
