The National Association of Nigerian Students will elect a new president on May 24 during its 2026 national convention scheduled to take place in Abuja.
The Chairman of the 2026 Independent Convention Planning Committee, Omotayo Samuel, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists in the nation’s capital.
Samuel explained that the committee was inaugurated by the President of National Association of Nigerian Students, Olusola Oladoja, on March 8, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the association’s constitution to coordinate activities leading up to the convention.
According to him, the planning committee has already begun putting structures in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the national gathering, which is expected to bring together student leaders from across the country.
He added that several sub-committees had been constituted to handle key aspects of the event, including logistics, accreditation, security, media relations and welfare.
Samuel noted that the committees were set up to guarantee effective coordination and seamless execution of the convention, stressing that the process would be transparent and inclusive.
The convention will mark the end of the tenure of the current leadership of the student body and pave the way for the emergence of new executives who will steer the affairs of Nigerian students for the next term.
He assured stakeholders that the planning committee would work closely with relevant authorities to ensure a peaceful and successful convention in Abuja.
