Governor Umo Eno Akwa Ibom State has spoken out following the recent death of his wife, Patience Umo-Eno. In a statement released on Friday, he described her passing as a profound loss, referring to her as “everything a man could ever wish for in a virtuous woman” and expressing that he will “miss her for a lifetime.”
Nine days after the unexpected loss of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Eno shared his grief over the passing of his partner of 38 years. In his message, titled “We’re Perplexed But Not In Despair,” he cited a biblical passage from 2 Corinthians 4:8 and conveyed his appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received through numerous condolences from both near and far.
He said, “Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience (Oluwakemi) Umo Eno, was my prayer partner, counselor, cheerleader, and the heart of our home. Her permanent smile and unwavering support meant the world to me.”
The governor expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and everyone who reached out with condolences, noting that the “incredible outpouring of love, support, prayers, and words of encouragement” has provided strength during this difficult time.
He particularly thanked the people of Akwa Ibom for their unity in support, especially the youth who paused their planned national protests to honor his late wife. Eno added, “I want to thank our people from all walks of life who have come together across party lines to share their prayers and condolences, even suspending campaign activities to pay tribute to our First Lady. We are truly grateful for this show of love and solidarity.”
