The Parish Priest, Holy Family Catholic Church in Ologo, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ozor, has urged mothers to be good role models in helping to build and shapen the family and society.

Ozor made the call on Sunday in Enugu during the 2026 Mothering Sunday celebration with the theme: “True Love In Action”.

In his sermon, the priest stressed the need for  mothers to  uphold virtues that promoted unity, discipline and moral upbringing in the homes.

He lamented what he described as the growing trend of “modern wife syndrome,” where some women neglected their responsibilities.

He cautioned against immoral lifestyles, including excessive social outings and urged mothers to preserve the dignity of motherhood.

Ozor also highlighted the “three powers” of a wife which are: proper use of speech, care through provision of food and marital intimacy, as key factors to sustaining peaceful homes.

The cleric further advised women to remain faithful to their husbands and avoid actions capable of destabilising families.

He also warned against hostility toward in-laws, urging wives to treat their mothers-in-laws with respect, while urging older women to allow younger couples enough independence devoid of interferences.

He consequently, enjoined mothers to reflect on their roles and demonstrate true love through their actions, adding that the stability of society depended largely on the strength of the family.
