In response to escalating security challenges in Edo Central, the Nigerian government has approved the construction of a mobile police barracks in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area. This initiative aims to bolster security infrastructure and address the increasing incidents of kidnappings, armed robberies, and other criminal activities plaguing the region.
The decision follows persistent appeals from local leaders and traditional rulers for enhanced security measures. Notably, the Ojuromi of Uromi, HRH Anslem Edenojie II, has been vocal in advocating for a permanent military presence in the area to deter criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents.
The new facility, designated as the 82 Esan Mopol Squadron Barracks, is expected to house approximately 700 mobile police officers. This deployment is anticipated to significantly improve the security landscape of Edo Central, fostering a safer environment for both residents and businesses.
