President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, as a minister replacing the former minster from the state, Uche Nnaji who resigned amid controversies over his certificates.
Udeh is the current attorney-general and commissioner of justice in Enugu state.
Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter read by Godswill Akpabio, the senate president, during Tuesday’s plenary.
I am pleased to forward to the senate the nomination of Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Ude, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, for confirmation as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter reads.
“While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the senate, please accept, the senate president and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest regards.”
After reading the letter, Akpabio referred the request to the committee of the whole for immediate consideration.
GWG.ng reports that the emergence of Udeh as the new minister from Enugu State is a reflection of the political dynamics in the state that follows the exit of Nnaji who had been seen as opposed to the defection of Governor Peter Mbah to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Enugu political chat rooms were on Tuesday hailing Udeh’s nomination as a minister as a dividend of the defection from the PDP to the APC and it is also being seen as poetic justice for Nnaji who it is alleged was indifferent if not supportive of the antagonists of Governor Mbah when he faced the crisis over his NYSC discharge certificate.
