The Defence Headquarters has released the latest update on the operational activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Conducted between 9 and 13 February 2026.
The press statement by Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that during the period under review, troops in a close collaboration with relevant security and intelligence agencies, sustained a high operational tempo across various theatres in furtherance of national security objectives.
He noted that, “the Armed Forces remain resolute in the execution of their constitutional mandate, with a deliberate focus on safeguarding the lives and welfare of our personnel while upholding the principles of professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. Defence Headquarters recognises the considerable public interest in ongoing military operations and appreciates the role of the media in informing the populace.
During this period, significant operational successes were reported across various regions. In the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI effectively targeted Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, resulting in the neutralisation of several militants, the arrest of informants, and the recovery of arms and equipment. This sustained pressure has facilitated the safe resettlement of displaced persons. The Air Component conducted successful airstrikes against identified terrorist movements, further disrupting their activities.
In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA saw troops neutralising numerous terrorists and rescuing kidnapped victims during operations in Zamfara and Kano states. Similarly, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD in the North Central region focused on denying terrorists freedom of action in Kwara and Niger states, while Operation ENDURING PEACE addressed terrorist activities in Plateau and Kaduna states, resulting in multiple arrests and rescues.
Operation WHIRL STROKE also reported successes in Benue and Taraba states, with significant arrests and rescues. In the South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE disrupted oil theft operations, arresting criminals and recovering arms. Meanwhile, Operation UDO KA in the South East conducted successful searches, leading to the arrest of terrorists and the recovery of weapons.
General Onoja reaffirmed the military’s commitment to combating terrorism and criminality, highlighting the dedication and resilience of troops. The Chief of Defence Staff commended the personnel’s professionalism and assured the public of ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability in Nigeria. The military calls for continued support from citizens to ensure the success of these operations and the overall goal of a peaceful and prosperous nation.
