The Defence Headquarters has dismissed claims suggesting that terrorists have seized a military training area in Kotangora Local Government Area of Niger State.
The alleged reports, which initially stemmed from discussions within the Niger State House of Assembly, were labeled as inaccurate portrayals of the current security landscape by the Defence Headquarters.
In an official statement released by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military made it clear that while troops have encountered terrorist elements in the region, no part of the training area has been overtaken by any terrorist group.
“Our troops continually counter terrorist threats across the vast area. Our clearance operations actively disrupt the terrorists’ movements, limiting their ability to operate freely,” the statement declared.
The military further clarified that ongoing operations within Niger State are strategically focused on combating these terrorist factions.
The statement dismissed any claims suggesting that the armed forces are falling short in their responsibilities or that the threat is being mischaracterized.
Major General Buba also assured citizens that the military is collaborating closely with the Niger State Government to strengthen security throughout the region.
“Our troops remain committed to tracking down and neutralizing these terrorist elements wherever they may be hiding,” he added.
The statement from Defence Headquarters, he said, aims to reassure the public of the military’s commitment to securing the area as well as to clarify that any rumors of a takeover are unfounded.
