Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Chairman, Hon. Danlami Abdullahi Saku, in a fatal auto crash along Minna-Suleja Road in the State.
Hon. Saku was said to have run into a trailer in his new Toyota SUV recently distributed to all council chairmen in the State, while traveling from Minna, the state capital, to Abuja.
The incident occurred at about 7:00pm yesterday (Tuesday, December 10) at Kwakuti village along the deplorable and ever busy Minna-Suleja highway on Tuesday.
It was gathered that while the body of the late chairman was being evacuated from the scene of the accident to a nearby hospital, the vehicle conveying the deceased was again involved in another incident where about four people who came to render help sustained various degrees of injury.
The death of the council chairman was confirmed in a statement last night by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Niger State governor, Bologi Ibrahim.
He said his principal, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, received the news of the demise of the late chairman with rude shock, describing Saku’s death as heartbreaking.
He said the demise of Saku is a sharp reminder that all creatures are from Allah and unto Him they will return at the appointed time.
The Governor, therefore, commiserated with the family of the deceased, the people of Katcha Local Government Area, and the entire State over the loss.
He encouraged the people to remain steadfast in the will of Allah at all times, as He is perfect in all things.
It would be recalled that the deplorable condition of the road informed the decision of the State Governor Rt Hon Umaru Mohammed Bago to call for the revocation of the road contract which was awarded to Salin Nigeria Construction Company in 2010.
The road has remained a death trap and has continued to claim lives, owing to the bad condition of the 83-kilometer road, the only major highway that links the state capital with the federal capital, Abuja.
