Large crowds of voters turned out across polling centers in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, as residents came out in numbers to cast their ballots in the Osun State governorship election.
Voters queued early across major voting sites, including Ward 04 Polling Units centered around Holy Trinity Primary School and the Iyana Ikire Open Space. Electoral officers with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opened polls by 8:30 AM, backed by heavy security presence to maintain law and order.
Long lines formed before official commencement at prominent centers across Irewole LGA. Officials reported smooth processing using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) with minimal delays.
Joint security task forces, comprising police, civil defense, and military personnel—were deployed to ensure orderly proceedings.
Addressing journalists at Ward 03, Holy Trinity Primary School, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner spokesman, Festus Okoye, praised the orderly conduct of voters in Irewole Local Government Area.
”We have seen impressive turnouts here in Ikire. The BVAS units are functioning as expected, and electoral officers arrived on schedule. We encourage all voters in line before 2:30 PM to stay put as every valid vote will count.” said Festus Okoye.
Community leaders also voiced satisfaction with the process. Speaking at Iyana Ikire, traditional representative Chief Ademola Ojelabi noted the community’s determination:
”Ikire residents recognize how crucial this election is for our local economy and infrastructure. Seeing our youth and elders turnout peacefully since 7:00 AM demonstrates our commitment to democracy.” Chief Ademola Ojelabi stated.
Voting is scheduled to wrap up in the afternoon, after which official polling unit results will be uploaded directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) before final collation at the local government and state headquarters in Osogbo.
