An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a man, Usman Hamza, to two years imprisonment without the option of a fine for trespass and theft of building materials valued at ₦303,000.
The judgment was delivered earlier today, Tuesday, 16 June 2026, by Judge Hannatu Ashom after Hamza pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of trespass and theft. The court found him guilty of unlawfully entering a property and stealing iron rods, door frame protectors and other building materials belonging to the complainant, Mr Yelkunum Wakfwen.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Labaran Ahmed, the matter was reported to the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Jos on 5 May 2026. Police investigations revealed that Hamza had trespassed into the complainant’s house and stolen the items. Ahmed told the court that the defendant confessed to the offence during the investigation.
The court sentenced Hamza to two years in prison without the option of a fine. The offences contravene the Plateau State Penal Code Law, 2017. The sentence was imposed following the defendant’s guilty plea and the evidence presented before the court.
