Man, 33, arraigned over alleged assault

The police in Asaba on Thursday, charged a 33-year-old man, Mohammed Jidda before an Asaba Magistrates’ court, over alleged assault.

Jidda, whose address was not stated, is standing trial before the Magistrate, Mrs Edith Anumodu, on a one-count charge of inflicting injury on a man’s head.

He however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Nwakanma Gospel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug, 13, at Ogbogonogo market in Asaba.

She alleged that during a disagreement, the defendant used a stone to hit the head of one Mr Dennis Chukwuma, and inflict an injury on his head.

The prosecution said that the defendant was consequently, arrested by the police.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 351 of the Criminal Law of Delta State 2006.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of M500 ,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Nov .26, for hearing
