A former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Bisi Ilaka, has formally resigned his membership of the party.
Ilaka’s resignation was contained in a letter dated Tuesday, February 10, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In the letter addressed to “The Chairman, Ward 5, Oyi East Local Government,” and titled “Re: Resignation of Party Membership,” Ilaka expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunity it gave him to serve at both the state and national levels.
“It is with utmost humility that I tender my resignation of membership from the PDP,” he stated.
Ilaka recalled his years of service within the party, noting that the platform provided by the PDP enabled him to contribute meaningfully to governance and public service.
According to The PUNCH, Governor Makinde appointed Ilaka as his first Chief of Staff on May 29, 2019, immediately after his inauguration as governor. Ilaka served in that capacity until 2021, when he was replaced by Segun Ogunwuyi in July 2021. Ogunwuyi was later reappointed for a second term following the 2023 general elections.
While Ilaka did not disclose his next political move in the letter, his resignation marks a notable development within the Oyo State chapter of the PDP, given his role as a key figure in the Makinde administration during the governor’s first term.
Efforts to reach Ilaka for further comments on his decision were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
