Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has congratulated the Muslim Ummah and Christian faithful in the state and across the country as the 2026 Ramadan and Lenten seasons commence.
In a statement marking the beginning of the sacred periods, the governor urged adherents of both faiths to use the season of fasting and prayer to deepen their devotion to God and renew their commitment to service to humanity.
Makinde noted that the rare coincidence of Ramadan and Lent this year presents a unique opportunity to reinforce the values of love, unity, sacrifice and religious harmony among the people.
According to him, the overlap of the two spiritual exercises serves as a powerful reminder of the shared moral principles that bind Islam and Christianity, including compassion, self-discipline, generosity and peaceful coexistence.
He called on worshippers not to lose sight of these common values throughout the fasting period and beyond, stressing the need for continued mutual respect and understanding among citizens regardless of religious affiliation.
The governor also encouraged residents to pray for sustained peace, stability and progress in Oyo State and Nigeria at large, expressing optimism that the spiritual reflections of the season would translate into positive actions that strengthen communities and promote collective development.
