Maida, NCC boss, joins IIC board

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC).

This appointment highlights Nigeria’s expanding role in global telecommunications and digital innovation.

The IIC serves as a platform for leaders in telecommunications, media, and technology to collaborate on regulatory frameworks and emerging technologies.

Maida’s extensive career includes significant contributions to small-cell technology and digital payments infrastructure in Nigeria, positioning him to influence global telecom discussions effectively.

Reacting to the appointment, Maida described it as an honour for him to serve on the Board of the International Institute of Communications, adding, “I look forward to sharing insights from Nigeria’s transformative journey and collaborating on strategies to foster a more inclusive and sustainable global telecom industry.”

Maida has had a distinguished career across several leading global organizations, including British Telecom, Cisco Systems and EE Ltd.

At UbiquiSys Ltd, he played a crucial role in pioneering small-cell technology before its acquisition by Cisco in 2013.

In Nigeria, as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems PLC (NIBSS), he significantly enhanced the country’s digital payments infrastructure.

Currently, as the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Maida is driving initiatives that enhance connectivity and competitiveness in Nigeria’s telecom sector.
