The Enugu North Senatorial District by-election was conducted peacefully on Saturday across the six local government areas of the district, although voter turnout remained low in many polling units.
Reports from polling centres showed that electoral materials arrived at most locations from about 9:00 a.m., while accreditation and voting proceeded without major incidents. Security personnel were deployed across the district to ensure a smooth electoral process, and no cases of violence were reported in the areas monitored.
At Amaechenu Polling Unit in Nsukka Local Government Area and Ogbodu Aba community in Udenu Local Government Area, voters and community leaders described the exercise as peaceful and orderly. Several residents also commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission for the timely arrival of electoral materials and personnel.
The Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze-Aka, who cast his vote at the Agamede Polling Unit in Obollo Eke, praised the conduct of the election. Similarly, Chris Ezema of the All Progressives Congress and Desmond Onah of the Peoples Democratic Party expressed satisfaction with the process and commended INEC for the prompt distribution of electoral materials.
Despite the peaceful conduct of the poll, attendance at many polling units was low, with voters arriving in small numbers throughout the exercise.
The by-election was held to fill the vacant Enugu North Senatorial seat following the death of Okechukwu Ezea in November 2025. Five political parties, including the APC, PDP, NDC, LP and Boot Party, participated in the election.
