Nigerian Christian circles are in shock this morning as reports confirm the passing of Rev. (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, the founder and President of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, at the age of 80.

According to PM News, the cleric died on Monday morning in Lagos after being moved there roughly two weeks ago. The exact circumstances of his passing have not been fully disclosed, nor has the ministry released a formal statement at the time of reporting.

Rev. Ukpai, born January 7, 1945 in Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria, had ministered for more than six decades. He was a key figure in Nigerian Pentecostalism, well respected for his evangelistic crusades, charitable works, and for being one of the founding fathers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

His ministry reached far beyond Nigeria’s borders. Through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, he held crusades and revival meetings across Africa and around the world. His teachings, healing services, and prophetic outreach mentored many Christian leaders and impacted countless lives.

Messages of shock, grief, and gratitude have begun to circulate on social media and in church networks. One such tribute on X (formerly Twitter) posted by Prophet Joel Ogebe read:

A giant has gone to be with the Lord. My father, my father, the chariot of Israel.”

Many christians described Rev. Ukpai as a spiritual father, a mentor, and a “general” who fought spiritual battles and brought healing, deliverance, and encouragement to believers.

The family has confirmed that Rev. Ukpai passed on October 6, 2025, though further details including funeral arrangements will be released in due course.

For now, Nigerians and the global Christian community mourn the loss of one of the most influential evangelists of this generation. His ministry, messages, and spiritual legacy continue to live on in the hearts and lives of millions touched by his work.
