The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired back at former Governor Ayodele Fayose over recent comments and actions deemed divisive and detrimental to the unity of the party, urging him to formally exit the PDP if he can no longer align with its objectives.
This reaction comes in the wake of Fayose’s renewed criticism of the party’s national leadership and open fraternization with leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which many within the PDP see as a betrayal.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday by the Ekiti PDP Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, the party said Fayose has, through his words and deeds, shown that he no longer believes in the PDP’s vision and should therefore “honourably take a bow” rather than destabilize the structure he once led.
We can no longer tolerate a situation where someone who claims to be one of us continuously undermines the efforts of loyal party members with careless utterances and anti-party activities,” the statement read.
The party accused Fayose of working against the PDP in the last gubernatorial and presidential elections, stating that his consistent attacks on the party’s presidential candidate and national executives gave the opposition ammunition during critical moments.
“Ekiti PDP is undergoing a rebuilding process after the damage caused by years of internal sabotage. The former governor should stop pretending to be with us while hobnobbing with the APC. If he has made up his mind to leave, we wish him well,” Adeyanju added.
Fayose, a two-term governor known for his bold and controversial statements, had earlier declared that the PDP at the national level was “beyond redemption” and needed to be completely overhauled. His recent meeting with APC chieftains in Lagos further fueled speculation about his political allegiance.
In response, PDP stakeholders in Ekiti accused Fayose of putting personal ambition above party unity and warned him against “dragging others into his political confusion.”
Meanwhile, party elders have called for calm, urging members to focus on restructuring and reconciliation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. They reiterated that the PDP remains open to dialogue but would not tolerate actions aimed at weakening its base in Ekiti State.
Political analysts say the unfolding drama may signal a final break between Fayose and the PDP, ending a decades-long association that saw him rise to national prominence as one of the party’s most outspoken figures.
