Newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane experienced an evening of mixed fortunes as Bayern Munich were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening, October 31, 2026, with kickoff at 6:30 PM.
The evening began on a celebratory note for the host side, with Bayern supporters honoring Kane before kickoff for his mid-week individual triumph. However, the contest quickly turned into a high-octane encounter with major twists at both ends of the pitch.
After a tense opening period, the match erupted in the second half. Bayern Munich were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute, giving Kane the opportunity to put the Bavarians ahead. However, the England captain uncharacteristically struck the crossbar from 12 yards out, leaving the home crowd in disbelief.
Borussia Dortmund capitalized on the momentum shift just four minutes later. Captain Nico Schlotterbeck intercepted a pass from Kane and surged forward before finding Carney Chukwuemeka, who set up Serhou Guirassy to open the scoring at the near post in the 58th minute.
Kane provided a swift response in the 66th minute, assisting Bayern’s goal by nodding Joshua Kimmich’s delivery across the face of the goal for Dayot Upamecano to finish from close range.
With Bayern maintaining control late into the half, Dortmund substitute Fabio Silva entered the action in the 76th minute and found the equalizer in the 89th minute, silencing the Allianz Arena with a low strike past Jonas Urbig. In the final moment of stoppage time, Bayern youngster Lennart Karl struck the crossbar, but the hosts were forced to settle for a point.
Standing in on the touchline for manager Vincent Kompany, who was recently discharged from the hospital, Bayern assistant coach Aaron Danks reflected on the dropped points after the match:
”When you have the chances to seal a game of this magnitude, you have to take them. Harry has been exceptional for us all season, and while penalty misses happen to the very best, letting the lead slip right at the end is frustrating.” Aaron Danks said.
Dortmund manager Nuri Şahin praised his side’s resilience following the full-time whistle;”Coming to the Allianz Arena against the league leaders is always a huge task. The team showed fantastic character to stay composed after going behind and push until the final whistle for Fabio’s goal.”
The result leaves both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund level at the top of the Bundesliga standings, with the Bavarians retaining first place on goal difference.
