The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has conducted a free health screening exercise for its staff members as part of efforts to promote employee wellness and boost productivity across the agency.

The exercise, which took place at the board’s headquarters in Maryland, Lagos, featured comprehensive medical checks including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar tests, body mass index (BMI) assessments, and eye examinations. Health education sessions were also held to sensitize staff on preventive care, stress management, and the importance of regular health checks.

Speaking during the event, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King, said the initiative was part of the board’s commitment to staff welfare and a healthy work environment.

“We recognize that a healthy workforce is a productive workforce. This screening exercise is not only to identify potential health issues early but also to encourage our staff to prioritize their wellbeing,” Alawiye-King said.

He added that the board will continue to initiate policies and activities that promote physical and mental wellness among employees in the basic education sector.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation to the board for the gesture, describing it as timely and thoughtful.

“This is my first time getting such a comprehensive health check without paying a dime. I’m grateful to LASUBEB for caring about our health,” said Mrs. Funke Adeyemi, one of the participants.

Medical professionals from a private health consultancy partnered with LASUBEB to provide the services. Some staff discovered previously undiagnosed conditions and were advised to seek further medical attention.

The health check is one of several initiatives LASUBEB has launched recently to enhance staff motivation and institutional efficiency, in line with the THEMES agenda of the Lagos State Government.
