The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has announced a temporary disruption in water supply to several parts of the Lagos metropolis to enable critical repair and replacement works at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.
In a statement obtained from the corporation’s website on Tuesday, LWC said the disruption would affect a wide range of areas, including Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege and parts of Lagos Island.
According to the corporation, the shutdown is necessary to address a major leakage on the ND1600mm Adiyan raw water pipeline located at the Akute Intake Station.
LWC explained that the persistent discharge of water from the leakage point has led to the saturation of the surrounding soil, thereby weakening ground stability and posing safety risks to heavy construction equipment such as cranes and excavators currently deployed at the site.
The corporation noted that the repair works are crucial to preventing further damage to the facility and ensuring the long-term safety and efficiency of the water supply infrastructure.
Residents in the affected areas were advised to make adequate alternative water arrangements during the repair period, as supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the works.
The Lagos Water Corporation apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of consumers, assuring that the intervention is aimed at improving service delivery across the state.
