The Lagos State Government has commenced the enforcement of a newly deployed e-call-up system in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, aimed at managing the heavy influx of trucks and improving traffic flow within the area. This initiative, announced by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, was disclosed through a statement released by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
The e-call-up system, designed to regulate truck movement in and out of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, is a proactive response to growing transportation demands in the Ibeju-Lekki axis. Giwa highlighted that the system will prevent chaotic traffic scenarios and indiscriminate parking, which can affect real estate values and disrupt commerce. The state government will oversee traffic management and enforce the smooth implementation of this system, which aims to enhance operational efficiency and minimize congestion.
According to Mr. Giwa, the e-call-up platform will streamline the entry and exit of both wet and dry cargo trucks, thus maintaining order and supporting the burgeoning economic activities in the zone. Over recent days, representatives from the Ministry of Transportation have engaged key stakeholders to ensure a coordinated rollout of the system, working to align the technology with operational needs.
Stakeholders consulted in these discussions include major players such as Pinnacle, Dangote, Lagos Free Zone, Lekki Free Zone, Lekki Port, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
“My office is committed to proactively addressing the imminent challenges associated with increased truck activities in the Lekki Free Trade Zone,” Giwa stated. “This initiative is a significant step toward sustainable development in the region, ensuring that the Ibeju-Lekki axis remains conducive for commerce and real estate investment.”
This e-call-up system represents a strategic move by the Lagos State Government to support the free trade zone’s economic growth while maintaining the livability of the Ibeju-Lekki area for residents and investors alike.
