The Lagos State Government has announced that it has generated more than 15,000 jobs through the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP), a youth-focused initiative designed to equip participants with modern agricultural skills and boost food security in the state.
The programme targets youths aged 18 to 30, offering training, internship placements, and mentorship opportunities to expose them to various opportunities within the food system.
Participants learn skills ranging from modern farming techniques to agribusiness management, preparing them to contribute to Lagos State’s agricultural sector and the wider economy.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the four-week training for the 26th cohort of LAP at the Agricultural Training Institute, Araga, Epe, Director Folake Ogunlana-Lawal described the programme as a major platform for youth empowerment and capacity building in modern agriculture.
According to Ogunlana-Lawal, the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems’ mandate under the state government’s THEMES+ developmental agenda, which focuses on Transport and Infrastructure, Health and Environment, Education, Agriculture, and Security. She emphasized that LAP not only equips young people with practical skills but also fosters entrepreneurship, enabling them to create sustainable employment for themselves and others.
Since its inception, the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme has steadily expanded, contributing to the state’s efforts to diversify the economy, reduce youth unemployment, and ensure food security for its growing population.
