The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly while live-streaming, an act that resulted in a serious road accident.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos State Command, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that Peller’s actions are under investigation as a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endanger the lives of other road users.
According to Adebisi, the case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and Peller is expected to face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation.
The police warned that reckless driving, particularly when live-streamed or performed for social media attention, constitutes a serious threat to public safety and will be met with strict enforcement of the law.
PPRO Adebisi also urged members of the public to report similar dangerous behaviors on the roads and reminded drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and save lives.
The arrest of Peller has sparked widespread discussion on social media about the responsibility of influencers in promoting safe behavior and the dangers of using social media for reckless stunts.
